| Even though
visual impairment can result in lifelong vision loss, nearly
two in three children do not receive any preventive vision care
before starting elementary school. In addition, research shows
that 80% of learning is visual.
In response to this national health
concern there are several key initiatives designed to improve
children's vision through preventive care. For example, an
increasing number of states have enacted or enhanced existing
laws to increase the number of children who receive vision
care upon entering school. Still, because most states do
not have any preventive measures in place, it is essential
that significant reforms are enacted to protect the vision
of children nationwide.
